About the residency
The Detroit Artist Residency is founded and run by Anders Ruhwald and M Pofahl in partnership with College for Creative Studies and Cranbrook Academy of Art. The residency is supported by Norwegian Crafts and provides the opportunity for four Norwegian or Norway based craft artists working in either glass, ceramics, textiles/fibre and metal/jewellery to take part in a five week residency at either College for Creative Studies (ceramics, glass) or Cranbrook Academy of Art (metal/jewellery, textiles/fibre). Applicants should only apply for a residency in a field in which they have experience.
The residency gives the craft artists the possibility to explore their medium within an unfamiliar studio-context which allows for experimentation as well as an active and rigorous dialogue in an academic environment. The purpose of the residency is twofold: to develop your artistic practice, and build on your international experience and network. Each participant will partake in a group exhibition showcasing works produced by all four residents at Simone DeSousa Gallery in Detroit in April/May 2023.
During the residency there is full opportunity to participate in campus life and participate in the various workshops and talks happening during the residency period. In return the participants are expected to give a workshop, lecture or masterclass. The format and timing of these will be arranged with the department head when the residency period is agreed upon.
«It is wonderful to be able to bring makers from Norway to this residency and to have them engage with one of the most interesting and exciting cities in the US right now»
Anders Ruhwald
